Required, residential, work-based
One camp, one community, one programme of work
The special camp is the capstone of the NSS year. Volunteers live together in the adopted village or ward, away from classrooms, and deliver a pre-planned programme of survey, awareness and physical work alongside residents. Attendance is a programme requirement and the camp is recognised in certificates and records.
Where & how long
Typically seven days, in the school's adopted village/ward, with shared accommodation arranged by the unit and host community.
Who participates
All eligible volunteers of the year. The camp leader, captains and secretaries organise teams; teachers supervise throughout.
How it is planned
A camp manual is prepared: survey pro-forma, awareness session plan, physical work schedule, daily diary and evaluation forms.
Typical work
Village/ward survey, cleanliness and sanitation work, literacy classes, tree planting, health check-ups and cultural integration evenings.
Safety & discipline
Attendance is recorded daily; conduct, dress and community conduct expectations are briefed with parents and students in advance.
